Sarracenia x moorei -- 'Saurus' is surely one of the Sarracenia cultivars that has generated one of the strongest enthusiasms worldwide in the last 15 years.
King of cultivars since the 2010s, this exceptionally rare plant at that time has gradually become more accessible to avid collectors.
A cross between S. leucophylla and S. flava var. ornata, this plant is renowned for its exceptional size, striking coloration, and the extreme variability of its genetics for hybridization. This Sarracenia produces massive pitchers that can reach 85 to 100 cm in diameter on well-established plants. More than its height, it is primarily its width, robustness, and imposing appearance that make it one of the most sought-after hybrids today.
This plant will require a few years of growth in a collection before revealing its full potential.
The urns evolve from a green veined with red to a deep plum to dark red hue, with white ocelli on their caps. The interior of the urns becomes intensely colored, almost metallic/silky in full light.
This cultivar is officially registered with the ICPS.
