Collection: Sarracenia oreophila
Sarracenia oreophila grows in mountain bogs in central and northeastern Alabama, as well as in the hilly regions of Georgia and both Carolinas.
It is currently the most endangered Sarracenia species in the wild: it is listed under CITES Appendix I, which prohibits any trade in plants taken from the wild and strictly regulates the trade of artificially propagated specimens—which all of ours are.
Its light green pitchers, sometimes veined with red depending on the form, are generally not very tall and quite stocky.
A unique feature of the species: it produces only one set of pitchers per year, which often wither by summer to give way to characteristic sickle-shaped phyllodes—a key identification feature for this species, even in cultivation. Its yellow flowers, produced in April-May, are among the largest in the genus.
Native to high-altitude areas, Sarracenia oreophila is known for its great cold hardiness, a significant asset in the French and European climate.
In hybridization, the seeds produce natural hybrids renowned for their vigor and colors.
