Collection: Sarracenia leucophylla

Sarracenia leucophylla is one of the most spectacular carnivorous plants in the Sarracenia genus. Native to the wetlands of the southeastern United States (Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia), it is distinguished by its tall, upright pitchers, crowned with a white hood most often finely veined with red and speckled with small white areas ("windows or fenestrations") that disorient insects once they are trapped inside.

Its pitchers can reach 60 to 90 cm, with some particularly vigorous forms such as 'Mont Blanc' or 'White Beast' even exceeding 90 cm at the end of the season. Its dark red flowers, typical of the Sarracenia genus, appear in spring before the new pitchers emerge.

In the wild, Sarracenia leucophylla is currently classified as vulnerable by the IUCN, threatened by the loss of its natural habitat. Growing this species in a collection also means supporting a responsible alternative to poaching in the wild.

Like other Sarracenia, it appreciates full sun, a poor and acidic substrate (sphagnum peat and perlite), watering exclusively with rainwater or demineralized water, and winter dormancy, which is essential for its flowering.
